Healthy Snacking

Edamame, aka Soya beans.

These beauties saved me from a ton of mindless midday munching as soon as I discovered them about 3 years ago. According to Wikipedia, "The United States Department of Agriculture states that edamame beans are "a soybean that can be eaten fresh and are best known as a snack with a nutritional punch".

I am in love with them but oh, how I miss them... I definitely took for granted how readily available they were in the states, and I'm a bit sad about that.

I used to eat them at least twice a week as a snack (I try not to eat too much soy product, because I read somewhere that soy is not great for your thyroid - and I make a solid attempt at erring on the side of caution when it comes to that - as thyroid issues, specifically Hashimotos, runs in my biological family) - and I find myself seriously craving them on a regular basis!

I used to buy them frozen and pop a big handful into the microwave for a minute to warm them... after that, I'd shuck 'em, salt 'em, and eat 'em with glee. I absolutely love their taste. Slightly buttery in flavor, and almost like popcorn.

I have looked in every single shop that I have gone to for groceries, and in every single freezer section I come across (including international food shops) for the past 18 months to no avail. Where can I find these beauties in Ireland??

The answer, as far as I know, is nowhere. *sad face*
